Harry Stewart had the privilege of working for the Algoma District Services Administration Board (ADSAB) for 30 years, retiring on March 1, 2017, as Manager of Information Technology. Through both his career and subsequent service as a board member, Harry has developed a strong working knowledge of ADSAB, its programs, and the important role it plays in communities throughout the Algoma District.
Harry is seeking re-election to continue representing residents of the Territory Without Municipal Organization (TWOMO). He believes that people living in unorganized communities deserve a strong and informed voice at the board table and is committed to ensuring their concerns and priorities are heard.
Harry is the co-founder and President of Welcome Friend Association, the registered charity that operates Rainbow Camp®. Together with his husband, Chris Southin, he helped establish Welcome Friend Association in 2009 and Rainbow Camp in 2012. Since then, Rainbow Camp has welcomed more than 1,000 young people from communities across Canada and has become an important source of support, belonging, leadership development, and community for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and allies.
For their work establishing Rainbow Camp and creating safer and more inclusive opportunities for young people, Harry and Chris were awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (M.S.M.) by the Governor General of Canada.
Born and raised in Thessalon, Harry has maintained strong ties to Algoma throughout his life. He understands both the opportunities and challenges facing smaller, rural and unorganized communities and brings extensive experience in public service, charitable leadership, governance, technology, community development, and working collaboratively with organizations and individuals throughout the district.
Harry would be honoured to continue serving the residents of TWOMO and contributing his experience, knowledge and community perspective to the Algoma District Services Administration Board.
