Planning for Housing and Homelessness Across the Algoma District
The Algoma District Services Administration Board (ADSAB) is developing a new 10‑Year Housing and Homelessness Plan for 2026-2036.
Why is ADSAB Developing a New Plan?
As a designated Service Manager, ADSAB is required under the Ontario Housing Services Act, 2011 to maintain a Housing and Homelessness Plan for the communities it serves.
ADSAB’s existing 10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plan, Opening Doors to Better Lives, was developed in 2013 and has reached the end of its 10-year planning period.
Since the existing Plan was developed, the housing and homelessness landscape has changed considerably. Housing affordability pressures have intensified, homelessness has become more visible, community needs have evolved, and the policy and service-delivery environment has changed.
What is the 10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plan?
The 2026-2036 Housing and Homelessness Plan will provide a long-term strategic framework to help inform ADSAB’s housing and homelessness planning and priorities over the next decade.
The Plan will be one of several tools used to support decision-making. Future initiatives and investments will continue to be considered based on factors such as;
- available funding and resources,
- feasibility,
- partnerships,
- emerging community needs, and
- provincial and federal policies and programs.
How Will the New Plan Be Developed?
ADSAB has retained OrgCode Consulting Inc. to support the development of the new Plan.
The process will consider a range of information, including local housing and homelessness data, demographic and economic trends, existing policies and programs, future needs, and information gathered through community and stakeholder engagement.
This work will provide an updated understanding of housing and homelessness across the District to support the development of the 2026-2036 Housing and Homelessness Plan.
Get Involved
Community and stakeholder engagement will be an important part of the new 2026-2036 Housing and Homelessness Plan.
As the project progresses, ADSAB and OrgCode will provide opportunities for residents, service users, service providers and other community members to share information and perspectives about housing and homelessness across the Algoma District.
