TWOMO Elections in the District of Algoma

Member municipalities within the social service board district appoint Council members to represent them on the Board. However, Territories Without Municipal Organization (TWOMO) must elect their representatives to sit on the Board. There is one (1) member on the Algoma District Services Administration Board (ADSAB) who represent the Territory Without Municipal Organization in the District of Algoma.

On October 24th, 2022 this member will be elected by qualified electors for a four (4) year term commencing on January 1, 2023. A qualified elector must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old and a permanent resident in the Territory Without Municipal Organization or an owner or tenant of land there or the spouse of such an owner or tenant. The voter’s list should be received by September 1st. At that point Individuals who believe that they are qualified electors for the TWOMO election can e-mail the undersigned at twomo-elections@adsab.on.ca or call the office at 705 842-3370 Ext. 238 to inquire if they are on the voter’s list. Applications to Amend the Voter’s List (PDF) can be mailed or e-mailed to qualified electors.

The ADSAB area of jurisdiction is the twenty incorporated municipalities and the unincorporated townships within the geographic District of Algoma. The ADSAB area excludes the City of Sault Ste. Marie, the Township of Prince and those 31 unincorporated townships within the Sault North Planning Board area.

The ADSAB Administrative Head office is located at 1 Collver Road., Little Rapids, Ontario P0R 1L0.

The Vote by Mail Process

The ADSAB uses a vote by mail process for its TWOMO election. This means that each elector will receive, by mail, a ballot, an inner ballot envelope, a voter qualification declaration and a prepaid business reply envelope. The completed ballot is sealed in the inner envelope and then placed in the prepaid envelope. The completed declaration is placed separately in the prepaid envelope. Business reply envelopes can be sent by return mail to the ADSAB office at 1 Collver Road, Thessalon, ON P0R 1L0. Envelopes must be received at the Board office by no later than 8:00 PM on October 24th, 2022.

How to Become a Candidate

If you are a qualified elector for the TWOMO election then you are eligible to be elected to the Board. There are some legislated conditions under which you could be disqualified from being a candidate.  If you are interested in being a candidate you should contact the Board office to verify your eligibility status and to obtain a Nomination Paper (PDF). All nominations must be received in the Board office by no later than 2:00 PM on Friday, August 19th, 2022. If only one individual is nominated, then they will be acclaimed to the position on the Board and no election will be held.
