Thessalon, ON – 2004-07-22, 1400 hrs
Algoma District Paramedic Services was recently invited to attend a black-tie dinner and celebration hosted by the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario held in Toronto on May 29, 2004. The affair was an opportunity for the organization to congratulate and recognize member firms which have operated with an accident frequency and cost rate factor below their group average each year for three consecutive years. Algoma District Paramedic Serviceswas one of only three ambulance services in the province to receive the 2003 Achievement Award, which was accepted on behalf of the service by Mr. Ron Hamelin,Algoma District Paramedic Services Operations Supervisor.
“Algoma District Paramedic Services is pleased to receive this prestigious award and we would like to offer our congratulations to both the Muskoka and Dufferin County ambulance services as fellow recipients”, said Paul Guertin, Algoma District Paramedic Services Public Information Officer.
“We are very proud of our staff and their clear dedication to safety. Although this award is presented to firms for having an injury-related accident frequency lower than the group average, Algoma District Paramedic Services has not had even a single injury-related accident since its inception in January of 2001. This is quite the accomplishment when you consider that, with ambulance bases spread out all throughout the Algoma District and providing coverage for approximately 59,000 sq kms, our Paramedics put over 475,000 kilometres on our vehicles every year”, said Guertin.
To further enhance the safety of its staff and patients, Algoma District Paramedic Servicesrecently had each of its employees attend a day-long collision prevention driver training session that was especially tailored to driving ambulances.
